Meet SOLD’s New Chairman of the Board

March 1, 2011

Please join us in welcoming Roy Goble on his first official day as The SOLD Project’s new Chairman of the Board!

Roy’s compassion for at-risk children has been a part of his professional and personal life for years.  He and his wife, D’Aun, founded PathLight International, a non-profit serving the poor in areas threatened by environmental problems.  Through this organization, short-term missions teams have visited over 25 countries, with a special focus that developed in Belize in Central America.  There, PathLight has been offering educational scholarships to break the cycle of poverty and offering hope through faith and learning since 2007. Roy also serves on the boards of Westmont College, the Goble Family Foundation, and Emerging Ministries.

Roy visited Thailand and SOLD’s Resource Center in Chiang Rai last month to see firsthand the work we are doing.  (D’Aun joined us on an Exposure Trip in early 2010.) Reflecting on his time at the Resource Center, Roy writes:

“Kids arrive here after school every day, riding their bikes down the dusty road that connects the school with the village, bringing a contagious laughter and joyous smiles. They are excited to be here…. This little building is a sanctuary. A place where kids and even parents can find peace. Oppressed by poverty, fearful of what might become of them, unsure of their place in life, but seeking something better, wiser, healthier … this little building is a small beacon of hope for all of them.  Here evil does not enter, and sadness becomes just the first step in a journey toward healing.”

Rachel Goble-Carey, SOLD’s Executive Director, is Roy and D’Aun’s daughter.  (Their son, Jedd, spent time in Thailand last fall and created this Cat update video for us!)  They have been supporters of SOLD in countless ways since the beginning.  Not only do they offer endless emotional support, but their decades of experience in non-profit work is invaluable to our growing organization.  We are excited for Roy to officially join us as Chairman to continue offering his skills, experience, and demonstrated compassion for at-risk children.  As we always have, we know we will gain much wisdom and support from Roy.

In addition to his real estate and non-profit work, Roy enjoys golf, jazz, and wine.  Keep in touch with Roy and his writings on his blog and Twitter (@roygoble). The Gobles live in Pleasanton, California with their golden retriever, Sadie.
