See the Faces of our 17 New Students!

March 15, 2011

Our Kids

Thank you to The SOLD Project’s new sponsors who are supporting the education of our 17 new students!  Last week, SOLD hosted our first New Student Orientation.  All 17 students (!!) came to the Resource Center to learn more about what we do on a daily basis, watch our short documentary, write a letter to their sponsor, and meet our local staff.

Here are a few of the students, writing letters to their sponsors.  At SOLD, we encourage our students and their sponsors to write to each other.  You can’t imagine the smile on their faces when they receive a letter from the U.S.!  If you are already a sponsor, please consider taking just a few minutes to write a letter of encouragement for your sponsor student.  We can all understand needing that kind of encouragement when we’re pursuing education!  More on that to come this week…

Now, we are proud to officially introduce to you our 17 new sponsor students!

Writes SOLD Executive Director, Rachel Goble-Carey:

“Each of their stories are so inspiring. All have difficult lives: broken homes, lack of citizenship, poor family background… but each of them was selected for the program not only because of their risk factors, but because of their determination. They are people passionate about breaking the cycle of poverty through education.”

We were able to accept these new students thanks to the support of our Stand 4 FREEDOM sponsors.  These sponsors provide the financial base we need to build a strong infrastructure of our prevention program, The FREEDOM Project.  The more of these sponsors we have, the more scholarship students we can accept!  Click here to give $16/month as a Stand 4 FREEDOM sponsor.

Thanks to Rachel Carey Photography for the images!
