The Journey of a Sponsor’s Letter

March 30, 2011

Our Kids

Mark sponsors a young girl through The SOLD Project and his monthly gift allows her to remain in school. He knows it is important to communicate with her and encourage her in her studies. These relationships are key to at-risk children not only continuing to attend school, but to being encouraged that they can excel there.

“The SOLD Project emphasizes that it’s not just an outreach or program, but that it’s about individuals. That message is lovingly depicted through Cat’s story and video and is echoed with every one of the children that SOLD staff members have caring relationships with in Thailand. Because of this attitude, it’s easy to pray for and write to [my student] while…also being mindful of her challenges in class and sadness from the situation with her parents… I like to send notes of encouragement to let her know that she is a special blessing to me.” -Mark

Mark’s Student Reads His Letter

Mark’s card includes a note from the kids in the Sunday School class that he teaches in northern California.  In the note, Mark’s students expressed their hopes for [Mark’s student] to fulfill her dreams of becoming a nurse, which is her dream. Her letters to me say that she is studying hard and tries to be good for her grandmother who cares for her.  When Mark showed the above picture to his students, he said they were “so thrilled to see a picture showing how the letter ended up all the way from California to Thailand!”

We accept letters to students at any time of year, though we specifically request them from sponsors twice a year so they can be handed out at our parent meetings each semester. SOLD’s next Parent Meeting takes place on May 28, so this is a perfect opportunity to send your sponsored child a letter.

Letter ideas:

  • Describe your family (and include pictures!)
    A Photo Mark Included
  • Describe your work, school, church, etc. (If you are sponsoring an older child, they would particularly benefit from hearing about your work.)
  • Encourage your student to achieve their dreams (refer to their Student Profile or any previous correspondence for more info or idea for follow-up questions).
  • Encourage their studies in school.

Please send letters to our office by April 15 to allow time for shipping and translation. Anything larger than a letter should be sent directly to our PO Box in Thailand. If you’d like to request an official SOLD postcard to write on, email us at scholarship@thesoldproject.com  Be sure to include your mailing address so we can send it to you.

We cannot express to you the excitement of our students receiving a letter from their sponsor! Your sponsored student is immeasurably grateful to you for the opportunity you’ve given them to stay in school and continue their education. Your donation makes a world of difference in their lives, and they look up to you and love to hear from you and read the letters that you write.

    Hi there.

Any chance you could share the PO Box address here? That would certainly help my package get where it needs to go. 🙂
