College to Host SOLD “Prom for a Cause”

April 5, 2011

Re:ACT Story

On April 8, Cal Poly Pomona is hosting Prom for a Cause to raise awareness and funds for The SOLD Project.  The event will feature dinner and dancing, and the money raised from the ticket sales will be donated to SOLD.

Elena Aespuro, a nutrition student and co-creator of Prom for a Cause, learned about SOLD through some volunteers on her campus promoting the organization. Last year, she hosted an awareness event on campus, complete with music, a catered dinner, and a film screening. The event was held in cooperation with the College of Agriculture.

“This year,” says Aespuro, “I ran into new people, and we’re doing it through the Violence Prevention and Women’s Resource Center. [The center is] providing a lot more of the support and the manpower so we can reach more people…. Anybody should know about this, not just sociology majors… It should be something ideally that everyone can become aware of.”

The event will be attended by Nate Graeser, husband of SOLD’s founder. Cal Poly Pomona is located outside of Los Angeles, California.
