Almost There! Help Us Build a Computer Lab for the Kids

April 19, 2011

Get InvolvedBack in February, Rachel Carey (SOLD’s President) first wrote on her blog about the need for a computer lab and security fence at the Resource Center. Many, many thanks to the individuals who responded to that request for help and kick-started this important project! To date, we’ve raised all the necessary funds for the fence and have purchased one computer! But we still have a ways to go.

Right now, The SOLD Project is partnering with the GlobalGiving Foundation’s Open Challenge to raise the remaining $2,500 by April 30 to equip the Resource Center with a total of five computers, giving our scholarship students and their families access to the internet and the opportunity to learn computer skills.

Without access to computers and the internet, our students are at a serious disadvantage at school and the job market beyond. An Internet-connected computer lab enables these at-risk students to complete homework assignments, learn valuable software, research, and typing skills, as well as pursue niche interests in design, web development, and more.

We’re getting close to reaching our goal, but we still need at least 28 people to give. And if you give today, April 19, GlobalGiving will match your individual donations at 15%! Click here to make a donation. Not only will your donation help us finish the new computer lab we’re building at our Resource Center in Thailand, it will help us take advantage of a long-term fundraising opportunity!*

We’d also appreciate your help spreading the word, so please share this opportunity with your friends and family!

*As a participant in GlobalGiving’s Open Challenge, SOLD must raise at least $4,000 from 50 donors by April 30. If we meet this threshold, we will be given a permanent spot on GlobalGiving’s website, where we have the potential to benefit from corporate relationships, exposure to a new donor network, and access to dozens of online fundraising tools.
