SOLD Partner Mentioned in Forbes Magazine

February 26, 2012

Our Partners

Recently Forbes interviewed Siddharth Kara, a world renowned expert on modern day slavery and a fellow at the Carr Center for Human Right Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. Kara is the author of three books on the issue, including “Sex Trafficking: Inside the Business of Modern Slavery,” which won him a prestigious award at Yale University. In his spare time, he advises the U.N. and other government entities, serves on an anti-slavery lobbying committee with Kirk Douglas (seriously), writes screenplays, and was a fellow at TED India. What did you do today?

When asked to name a few “great cases studies” that are “truly making a difference and moving the needle on this issue,” Kara includes SOLD partner New Life Center. Located in Chiang Mai and ChiangRai, Thailand,  the New Life Center is a well-established organization that is indeed making a difference. We are proud to partner with them.

During our parent meetings, New Life Center comes for our human trafficking awareness component. To be honest, we didn’t know quite what to expect the first time, and they just blew us away! In addition to speaking, they performed sketches that had all the Thai parents and kids cracking up, while still communicating to the community the value of their children and the hardship that awaits them in the cities without an education.

Jade Keller, a SOLD staff member, attending some meeting in northern Thailand that encouraged local NGOs and law enforcement to collaborate. Read more of her thoughts on the meetings and this article here. Read the full-length interview to learn more about Kara’s work and see other organizations mentioned.
